Action Track: Justice for the Whole Community
Learn More about Food Apartheid
What can lack of access to nutritious food affect a community? How can having access to nutritious food help a community become more resilient?
Simplicity
Core Values
We may find more meaning and joy in life when our actions are aligned with our personal values. I will determine what my top 3-5 core values are so that I can better align my actions with them.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Health
Healthy Sleep
Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 30 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.
Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with durable non-plastic options.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Tristen Yagyagan 11/30/2020 9:23 PMI've found that meditating helps me a lot. After learning to use it as an outlet for stress and other emotions from my therapist, I've come to appreciate its pragmatic outcomes. It's a very useful tool to recall mindfulness into daily stressful and anxiety-arousing situations. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Tristen Yagyagan 11/30/2020 9:20 PMIf I forget to bring a bag, I am more likely to purchase a reusable bag if the store offers one. That way, I feel less guilty about purchasing a bag. If the store does not offer its own reusable bag, I'll force myself to carry the items out in my purse or in my hands. However, I do like to have a reusable bag in my car or in my purse for back-up on all occasions. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Tristen Yagyagan 11/30/2020 9:17 PMI get approximately 9 hours of sleep every night. However, ever since the start of the Covid pandemic, I've been sleeping and waking up later. This is something I'd like to change since I've noticed that my body feels more sluggish recently. I'd like to revert back to my older sleeping patterns, in which I was able to operate daily on fewer hours of sleep. -

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Core ValuesWhat are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?
Tristen Yagyagan 11/16/2020 11:07 AM1. I am loved.
2. I have value.
3. I don't always need to be in control. I can control what I have the power to control, and I can let go of the things that I can't.
Earlier this year, I decided to start going to therapy because I had been feeling kinda "down in the dumps," as people would say. Being a psychology major, I wanted to see what effect therapy would have on my general mood. Core values are actually something that I've worked with my therapist on, and I realized that I often tend to have bad moods when my negative core beliefs are triggered. The above three core beliefs are the more adaptive core beliefs that I'm trying to incorporate into my daily thinking.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Tristen Yagyagan 10/21/2020 11:25 PMPracticing gratitude allows individuals to live in the present moment. By living in the present, we are able to lessen the stresses stemming from anxieties about past or future moments. By focusing on the present, tasks appear to have a higher and more appealing achievability.
