  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Know My health
How do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?

I've found that meditating helps me a lot. After learning to use it as an outlet for stress and other emotions from my therapist, I've come to appreciate its pragmatic outcomes. It's a very useful tool to recall mindfulness into daily stressful and anxiety-arousing situations.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

If I forget to bring a bag, I am more likely to purchase a reusable bag if the store offers one. That way, I feel less guilty about purchasing a bag. If the store does not offer its own reusable bag, I'll force myself to carry the items out in my purse or in my hands. However, I do like to have a reusable bag in my car or in my purse for back-up on all occasions.

    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I get approximately 9 hours of sleep every night. However, ever since the start of the Covid pandemic, I've been sleeping and waking up later. This is something I'd like to change since I've noticed that my body feels more sluggish recently. I'd like to revert back to my older sleeping patterns, in which I was able to operate daily on fewer hours of sleep.

    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

    1. I am loved.
    2. I have value.
    3. I don't always need to be in control. I can control what I have the power to control, and I can let go of the things that I can't.

Earlier this year, I decided to start going to therapy because I had been feeling kinda "down in the dumps," as people would say. Being a psychology major, I wanted to see what effect therapy would have on my general mood. Core values are actually something that I've worked with my therapist on, and I realized that I often tend to have bad moods when my negative core beliefs are triggered. The above three core beliefs are the more adaptive core beliefs that I'm trying to incorporate into my daily thinking.

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

Practicing gratitude allows individuals to live in the present moment. By living in the present, we are able to lessen the stresses stemming from anxieties about past or future moments. By focusing on the present, tasks appear to have a higher and more appealing achievability.
