Leah Young 5/22/2019 3:08 PMI got paid today, and 25% of it went straight into savings so I won't be tempted to spend it on unnecessary things. I also investigated the automatic withdrawals on my credit card, which I will be simplifying as well. -
Leah Young 5/22/2019 2:49 PMToday I leaarned "High-efficiency clothes washers use 35 to 50 percent less water and 20 percent less energy than traditional top-loading washers" (BeWaterWise.com) -
Leah Young 5/20/2019 5:16 PMIn the last two weeks, I cut my spending by about 40%. That includes automatic bill payments that came out of the bank.-

Leah Young 5/20/2019 5:08 PMToday I found this website where you can learn about residential (and business, if you're interested) water usage rebates for Southern California and submit an application for said rebates: http://socalwatersmart.com/en/residential/#-

Leah Young 5/16/2019 8:43 PMThis is going to be harder than I thought - Starbucks is considered dining out according to my banking website. -
Leah Young 5/16/2019 8:31 PMToday, I read 17 tips on how to conserve water in the kitchen, found on https://wateruseitwisely.com/100-ways-to-conserve/?view=list. Many of them involve not running the kitchen sink water, and not letting the water we use go down the drain - it can be used in other ways after we're done with it!-

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Leah Young 5/15/2019 9:50 PMI've learned that over 20% of my spending goes toward gas for my car, which leads me to believe I spend way too much time driving. I'd love to simplify my life by eliminating my time on the road. I also spend 13% of my income on eating out at restaurants, while I spend only 8% on groceries for the house. That's something I'm going to change immediately. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Connect with a NonprofitWhat inspires you to act toward a more sustainable community?
Leah Young 5/09/2019 8:23 PMAll of the horrible things that result from our mere existence in the world, are what inpire me. The problems are so massive and disheartening that I find I have to act or otherwise become overcome with depression and hopelessness. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
Leah Young 5/09/2019 8:08 PMIf I'm understanding the question correctly, spending time outdoors gives perspective. That is, perspective on life, meaning of things, importance of priorities, and how countless and precious our blessings are. It deepens feelings and broadens personal horizons by inspiring us to be better. It helps us develop love and respect for living things, so that our place in the world can be positive rather than negative. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Get Involved in the Water Justice MovementWho is affected by polluted water or a lack of access to water in your region? How are they affected?
Leah Young 5/09/2019 7:59 PMApparently, the whole city of Escondido is affected as long as they drink tap water from their sinks. The Environmental Working Group published a drinking water quality report in 2015 that found 9 cancer-causing contaminants were above health guidelines, yet the EPA stated in their reports that the "tap water provided by this water utility was in compliance with federal health-based drinking water standards."-
Leah Young 5/12/2019 9:51 AMI assume not, but the report I read pertained to the Escondido water utility only.

Professor Morrell 5/11/2019 11:10 PMGreat research and insights! Is this limited to Escondido?
