REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Adjust the ThermostatYour utility company is able to tell you your average energy usage. Ask them how your energy usage compares to others in your ZIP code, region, and/or state. What other steps can you take each day to reduce your electricity usage?
Emely Gaytan 5/20/2021 10:47 PMI can start by disconnecting cables that are not being used and making sure lights that aren't needed are off as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Whole Food LifestyleMichael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this assertion?
Emely Gaytan 5/20/2021 10:47 PMMy thoughts are that this is sort of true. Being healthy means less doctor visits. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Emely Gaytan 5/20/2021 10:46 PMYes this describes me. I often find myself very busy and having a car makes everything go faster and easier for me. I can always bike but I guess it depends on where I am going. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Emely Gaytan 5/20/2021 10:44 PMWhen I am in a rush I often forget my reusable bag so I carry all things big that can be carried and once in a while I buy a bag for the things I can't carry. I also tend to just use the cart and take all my things in it to my car. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Emely Gaytan 5/20/2021 10:43 PMDriving every where affects my community by car pollution that later turns into global warming. I think everyone can agree that biking or walking is 10x better for the environment but it is a little harder to do.-
Janeth Maya 5/24/2021 11:00 PMTransportation choices affect the community because it provides new ideas and solutions. Reduces conflict and builds trust. Increases communication and creates openness in the community. Provides opportunities for residents to participate in the decision-making process. Overall Investments in sidewalks, bike lanes, trails, public transit, and other infrastructure that supports physical activity can result in improvements to individuals' health and decreased health care costs.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Emely Gaytan 5/15/2021 6:06 PMThe electricity is generated by solar panels now. This impacts the environment in the way that we are reducing other energy sources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Emely Gaytan 5/07/2021 3:13 PMIn order to make this a permanent habit is avoiding plastic bottle. Purchasing hydro flasks can reusable water bottles will make a better affect on the planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Emely Gaytan 5/07/2021 3:11 PMI believe that richer countries eat more meat because they have more people to feed than other places.Eating more meat affects our planet and other people because it causes climate change. -
Emely Gaytan 5/04/2021 1:32 PMI invested in a super cute eco friendly hydro flask and take it every where I go. I also saw some reusable bags at the dollar tree so I bought 5! Some of my bags have Disney characters and the rest have cute prints. These items make it fun to save plastic.-
Martha Castro 5/11/2021 8:18 PMHi Emely, I started using an eco friendly water bottle a year ago & I noticed that aside from consuming less plastic bottles I was able to intake more water on the daily so that was interesting! I definitely feel a difference, I hope more people are able to make this switch. -
