Andres's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Food
Choose Organic Ingredients
I will enjoy 2 meal(s) cooked with organic ingredients each day.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products
I will spend 30 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home or dorm room.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Tend a Garden
I will tend to a garden, or prepare for one, each day using sustainable gardening practices.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Andres Guerrero 5/01/2022 6:32 PMI choose to carry my items in my hands when feasible. I only buy plastic bags when I have so much stuff that I would be greatly inconvenienced by having carry them to my car and into my home. My family and I always have about a dozen reusable bags in the trunk to make sure we almost never use plastic bags.-
Nordia Rendon 5/03/2022 7:29 PMHi Andres, just like you I also carry stuff in my hands if I am able to. If I have a lot of items I take the cart outside and unload everything in my trunk because normally I have bags in there I just forget to get them down.

REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Andres Guerrero 4/20/2022 10:16 PMA little creativity can give new life to items that would have otherwise been discarded. By maximizing the functions of different items and up-cycling, there will naturally be less items in one's possession. For example, jars can be reused as planters and gimmicky kitchen tools can be foregone for more versatile options.-
Nordia Rendon 4/21/2022 12:34 PMHi Andres, like you mentioned creativity can definitely help maximize the use of an item by up-cycling it. For instance, instead of buying a plastic container for my paperclips or pencils/pens I reused old candle containers and didn't have to spend more money or add more things to my house.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Andres Guerrero 4/07/2022 5:30 PMLiving Southern California, I am used to going everywhere via car because the infrastructure makes it very difficult to walk or take public transportation. The sidewalks and general layout of cities here were not made with pedestrians in mind, so I've never been able to try more eco-friendly modes of transportation.-
Briana Lay 4/07/2022 6:12 PMHi Andres, I agree California and Transportation is frustrating at its finest. Depending on what public transportation you take it's actually not as frustrating as it may seem to be. Mertolink is actually a really good one, foothill transit, and Omini Transit can get you where you need to be and actually save you on gas.
