Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Food
Zero-Waste Cooking
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Nature
Keep a Nature Journal
I will journal each day about my experiences in nature.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Water
Fix Leaky Faucets
I will fix faucets or report leaky faucets to facilities that have been wasting up to 9 gallons (34 L) of water a day or 270 (1,020 L) gallons of water a month per faucet.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex transition from localized food systems to modern global food systems?
melrose kempiak 11/25/2019 5:06 PMToday we waste so much that its so sad for the people that do not have much. I google mapped the poorest place in the world and its so sad to see the houses and huts people have to live in. i cant even image being there, it makes me aware that I do not need everything, and to always reuse items. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Explore My AreaHow might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?
melrose kempiak 11/25/2019 4:52 PMSpending more time outdoors give you fresh clean air to the brain, maybe chemical free as well, dust free. when we are inside we are abound fabrics that let of chemicals and lots of dust. being outside is a great way to be healthy, and explore new things. -
melrose kempiak 11/25/2019 4:12 PMToday I cleaned up a bunch of broken glass in the woods , it was really cool to see the old bottles. My plan is to take the Glass to a artist who does art sculptures, not sure where I could take it to recycle it, if he didn’t want it. If anyone has any ideas where to recycle glass it comment below. -
