Action Track: Building Resilience

Buy From a Farmers Market

I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.

COMPLETED 12
DAILY ACTIONS

Community

Support Businesses Owned by People of Color

Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.

COMPLETED 14
DAILY ACTIONS

Health

Happiness

I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

COMPLETED 15
DAILY ACTIONS

Food

Reduce Animal Products

I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

COMPLETED 29
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Brush My Teeth Without Running Water

I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Use Reusable Bottles

I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.

COMPLETED 18
DAILY ACTIONS

Water

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

COMPLETED 17
DAILY ACTIONS

Nature

Go for a Daily Walk

I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.

Since this has now become a habit, I'm now working on shorter showers as well. That one isn't as easy.

Setting a 5 minute timer is a great way to start! You can get a routine down in a few days I found!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Say No to Plastic Straws
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

I found a collapsible straw and holder at Target yesterday and purchased it. My problem lately has been forgetting my straws at home so I have resorted to drinking without a straw, which is not my favorite. I'm hoping this new product will help!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

It was a very cold walk today! Luckily I was able to get the walk in right on time, as soon as I reached the door, the hail started to fall.

Its a good experience. I walk 10 to 15 minutes every afternoon with my kids in our neighborhood.
