Joanna's actions
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Water
Brush My Teeth Without Running Water
I will save up to 8 gallons (30 L) of water each day by turning it off while brushing my teeth.
Water
Use Reusable Bottles
I will use a reusable bottle and stop purchasing bottled water, saving 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) a day.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Community
Support Businesses Owned by People of Color
Racial inequity is both a sustainability and justice problem. I will support businesses owned by people of color in my community whenever I shop.
Action Track: Building Resilience
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat is the main water source in your region? If you don't know, how could you find out?
Joanna Mendoza 2/07/2021 3:42 PMSince this has now become a habit, I'm now working on shorter showers as well. That one isn't as easy. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Joanna Mendoza 2/07/2021 3:41 PMI found a collapsible straw and holder at Target yesterday and purchased it. My problem lately has been forgetting my straws at home so I have resorted to drinking without a straw, which is not my favorite. I'm hoping this new product will help! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Joanna Mendoza 1/25/2021 9:26 PMIt was a very cold walk today! Luckily I was able to get the walk in right on time, as soon as I reached the door, the hail started to fall.-
Nazifa Sultani 1/26/2021 11:59 AMIts a good experience. I walk 10 to 15 minutes every afternoon with my kids in our neighborhood.
