Im up at Big Bear for the weekend and decided to try to fully walk during my stay.... I walked 5 miles to get pizza. I actually really enjoyed it, I just wish that I had time (and it was safe) to do this more often. Its a reminder of the pace we were made to live life.

After spending the weekend hiking, biking and kayaking in rural Mono County with no reception much of the time, I was reminded that time in nature can bring so much joy and peace and alignment and holds so many lessons for us yet we often dont take time to see or value how awesome it is.

Having my "farm starter kit" has been one of the most rewarding things Ive done for myself outside of my professional career. My animals bring me so much joy and remind me how simple life was meant to be and how complicated we make it. It makes it so much easier to unplug, get outside and enjoy being home. It really has made me look at other areas I can view through a more simple lenses as well...

Agree, Life is so simple and joyful but we make it complicated for our-self.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How can we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

Ive been really mindful of living simply over the last year. I find that the more I am able to simplify, the more I am able to notice the beauty of things around me and be grateful to be able to take time out to enjoy them.

This quarantine has been great for allowing me to really lean in to my challenges. Getting in outside time has been part of helping me create balance in the midst of the schedule change. Im also enjoying not contributing to emissions by skipping my daily commute! Stay safe and healthy!

I had no cell or wifi at the cabin I stayed in on vacation. After the momentary panic, I ended up feeling relieved. I was able to really take time to reflect and plan and enjoy the beauty of the area I was in. This helped me realize that constantly checking my phone was distracting me from many good things around me.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Simplicity Go For A Daily Walk Outside
Fresh air and movement are good for our entire being and can help us think more clearly and creatively. How does taking a walk each day affect yourself and/or your work?

I have been fighting a cold and allergies and walk always helps rejuvenate me and propel me forward in the midst of it. I was even able to take others out and introduce them to the joy of hiking. One lady was still talking about it the next day... although 4 miles suddenly became 5 when she told the story :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

    Professor Morrell 5/26/2019 10:24 AM
I have noticed how often bags are used where I can't even say no- ie - take out/delivery! I also need to do better to make sure I bring my reuseable bags INTO the store and ENOUGH of them. I have purchased silicone  ziploc bags to reduce my use of disposable bags at home.

Here lately they aren't letting us bring in our own bags, so I take my groceries to the car and bag them there instead.

Travelling has made me very aware of single use items and the massive amount of waste we have in packaging.
