Transportation
Conduct Virtual Meetings
I will not travel for meetings and will instead conduct them virtually.
Simplicity
Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.

I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.

Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 20 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Transportation

Effectively working for sustainability requires self care! I will commit to getting 300 more minute(s) of sleep each night to achieve at least 7 hours per night.

Erick Padilla 7/07/2020 12:24 PMIt's going pretty good. Ever since my work opened back to the public, I have worked nothing but eight hour shifts which is good because it keeps me busy. Its been nice to see all my co-workers as well since I missed the face to face interaction with people. I started to enjoy the little things in life. I haven't been to the beach this summer which is a bummer because I live 5 minutes away from one. I have been meditating and thinking more about my future plans and reading more as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Needs Vs. WantsHow is creativity a necessary ingredient for practicing simplicity?
Erick Padilla 6/30/2020 11:25 PMBeen creative helps us find another way to do things. We tend to look at things and think that we need to do more than what we expect when in reality it's the simple things in life that we need to enjoy. Practicing simplicity definitely gives me a different perspective, I have learned to enjoy the more simple things in life. Most of the time I thing it has to do with growth. I get more creative with simpler things as I start to get my best ideas from simple things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Prevent Recycling ContaminationWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Erick Padilla 6/16/2020 8:21 AMI have been recycling since I was a kid. From going to a local hauler, I have learned that some location accept certain things. A couple of weeks ago my dad wanted to get rid of a lawn mower that we had and we found a place where they recycle lawn mowers that where electric. The one thing I recommend is checking what local haulers for recycling accept what kind of things since each one that I have gone has specific things they recycle. Some have specific days and they will tell you the perfect time to come. The hardest part of recycling has to be what to recycle since somethings may seem recyclable. The other difficult part is finding a location where they would accept what you want to recycle since like mentioned many places don't accept certain things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Work-Life BalanceHow might practicing work-life balance lead to a more sustainable life for yourself? How might it contribute to sustainability more broadly?
Erick Padilla 6/06/2020 7:05 PMGoing to my third week of work, I would say its definitely a challenge since I am getting use to been on my feet all day. I would like to give a big shout to my store manager Sam for been an understandable manager and is able to work with my new desired schedule while going to school. To answer the first question, it simple, before we opened, he called us individually and asked us what days and time of the days we would like to work. Now a days I am one of the openers, working between 30-36 hours a week which works since after work I am able concentrate on school after. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Erick Padilla 5/26/2020 2:06 PMAfter spending two months of not working and just focusing on school. I have used my time in investing more in myself. My main focus is myself as there are so many thing I want to do, reflecting on myself in what I want to accomplish before the end of the year. I have been meditating and I've personally enjoyed the quiet time. Overall, just focus in new goals I want before the end of the year. -
Erick Padilla 5/26/2020 2:02 PMSo i just went back to work on Saturday, this gives this ecochallenge a more of a challenge since I have been working full-shifts. Factors that will make it challenging can be things like not having enough time for me to relax or do what I want to do for my free time or any outdoor activities since my body is going to readjust to having a busy schedule all over again. Its definitely gives it more of a challenge and I honestly looking forward to do this ecochallenge with the economy coming back to normal.-
Coral McDuffee 5/26/2020 3:58 PMHey Erick. Going back to a busy schedule must be difficult. I'm still UI but I know it's about time for me to start doing the same. I am a little bit anxious about getting back to my schedule.

Erick Padilla 5/22/2020 10:38 AMMy ecochallenege is going well so far. I see that I tend to do more of some challenges than others. I enjoy the topic I chose, their interesting and fun to do. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Erick Padilla 5/17/2020 4:21 PMI tend to go to my backyard to do my workouts. To me, it has the perfect nature view since I look at my fig tree as it relaxes me and makes concentrate on myself. Once I am done with my workout, the simple stuff along with the breeze is what makes working-out outside better. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Erick Padilla 5/15/2020 9:45 PMWith the COVID-19 going on, it is easy to not drive since I am technically staying at home. Which mean I only use the car to go to the store when need to which is only a mile away from my house. Other than that I just walk to not use my car. I feel more relax not using my car since Im not in a rush to get to any places due to the fact that they closed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Erick Padilla 5/15/2020 3:53 PMWhen I sleep my seven hours, I have notice that I wake up with more energy. Not to mention that as an early bird person that enjoys waking up at around 6 or 7 in the morning. I am able to enjoy the day with a morning workout or start it of with walking my dogs. The way I would shift my sleeping hours is depending the time I go to sleep. I normally go to sleep anywhere from 11pm-1am but at the same time make sure I get my full 7 hours.
