When I was young, my family camped in a tent and went to places like the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota. I loved the clear lakes and tall pine trees. I also once went on a canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.  For this goal area, I made a homemade spray from a recipe with natural ingredients including chopped up serrano peppers and vinegar. I sprayed this on my tulips as a deterrent to squirrels who "eat" my tulips which are blooming now.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Eliminate Toxic Plastics
What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

Recently, I have eliminated buying toothpaste in tubes. Instead, I bought tooth cleaning tablets in a re-fillable glass jar. These tablets work fine and now I have no empty tubes to recycle. I also used up my last plastic deodorant roll-on and started using a deodorant cream--again in a refillable glass jar. I bought these products at the Tare Market.

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

Quiet.  Able to actually see people and greet them.  Notice with joy the greening that is spring, the beautiful spring flowers and trees coming back to life.

I am pretty healthy and haven't experienced much personal reaction to cleaning products. I am concerned about the impact of cleaners  released into the environment. I plan to avoid products I used in the past like Magic Erasers and oven cleaners.
