This has been a fun challenge.  With spring being upon us, it has been easy to pay more attention to my outside surroundings as we've watched trees bloom and the grass begin to grow.  Makes me appreciate more of our planet than ever before.

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

The barrier for me would be to wash the reusable bottle in time. Also dad and I use the water purifier to make the tap water cleaner. There is only so much it holds, so if dad uses it first, then there isn't time for me to fill mine up too. Getting a bigger purifier or filling up before he does would make it permanent.

My family and I have been paying close attention to the various buds on the trees in our yard over the last several weeks.  It quite amazing how the buds progress and change in just a few days.  Loving spring this year!!

Today, my husband and I explored Starved Rock State Park and Mathieson State Park.  We have been there before but today was less busy and so we were able to take in nature more.  Lovvvvved it!!

    Community Engage In Active Listening
What was it like to actively listen to someone? How did both people and the conversation(s) benefit from active listening?

I listened to a customer speak about why they aren't wearing a mask. I listened and was polite. Neither party was rude. There was no confrontation. Then we moved on with our days.

    Nature Explore My Area
How might spending more time outdoors enhance your brainpower?

For a lot of people (myself included), the absence of the existence of technology will probably enhance brainpower by proxy. Aside from that, the quiet and undistracted landscape can bring a bit of clarity at the very least.

    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

I believe the difficulty of understanding our own impact is from the perception of it, seeing a small amount of trash as an acceptable necessity instead of a contribution to multiple issues. This audit makes you consider buying products that unnecessarily contained or wrapped, like individually wrapped tea bags or disposable water bottles, when there are easy alternatives.

    Water Collect Rain Water
Trace the water that flows down the drain from your house to the largest body of water nearby. What is the route it takes?

I can tell where our home's drainage goes out of the immediate area but can not tell beyond that.

A few of the changes I made at the beginning of April are already new habits.  Wooot!!!

    Simplicity Core Values
What are your top 3-5 core values? How did you narrow it down to those as being your core values?

    1) my personal wellness (mind & body)
    2) appropriately balancing work and life in this work-from-home environment
    3) spending as much time outdoors as I can
These core values are important to me during this season of life as I have found myself being sucked into depressive thoughts and actions (non-movement).  And recognizing that I have the power to make the change.

Work/ life is so very important! We need to stop thinking that being overworked is somehow linked to success.
