  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Less Screen Time

For me it wasn't hard! I always say I was born in the wrong generation because I don't like how technology has completely absorbed our lives! I took the time to take my dog on walks and play some fun board games with my roommates!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Eat Mindfully
Mindful eating is healthier for us than eating with distractions. How do your eating experiences differ when practicing mindfulness?

This allows me to have better and important conversations with those around me! Connecting with each other is an important part of life and taking the time to put away the distractions while eating together is something that I have always tried to do, as I think its a very important part of our day
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

I love both sunrises and sunsets. Not only are they just a beautiful sight, but I think they are a beautiful way that the earth shows a positive beginning and a positive ending!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
How can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

I personally love thrift shopping. I think it provides a way for you to express yourself in ways that aren't necessarily the "hottest trends". Its also so much cheaper and better for the environment, so that's a win in my book!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Walk Instead
Half of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?

I should walk more, especially  to school since it's close by. Rochester isn't really made for walking, unfortunately.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Water Mulch the Base of Trees and Plants
Where are your nearest natural bodies of water? How might they be affected by runoff?

There is a little pond near my apartment. Runoff water can contaminate it and the natural habitats can be disturbed
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Community Volunteer in my Community
What is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?

Clean up trash when you see it! Especially when you see it where it shouldn't be, like when you're in a walk
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Skip the Straw
How could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?

    Rachel Cheeseman's avatar
    Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:49 PM
Reduce by buying less, reuse with a water bottle, repair when things get broken like clothes that rip rather than get rid of it, repurpose can be the same for clothes, you can make something new out of old
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Choose Organic Ingredients
Many people say that “you can’t feed the world with just organic food.” How would you respond to that statement?

    Rachel Cheeseman's avatar
    Rachel Cheeseman 3/31/2022 3:48 PM
While organic food isn't always available, it is good to try to eat as much organic food as you can
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

I have to clean my reusable water bottle often. Tap water isn't always clean so I do prefer filtered water. I personally like filtering tap water with a brita filter
