  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Advocate for Greener Vehicles
Reducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?

Another motivator for more fuel-efficient vehicles is spending far less on gas and not having to fill up as often. The oil industry alone controls so much of our society and not having to participate in it as much is another goal.

I completely agree with you Rose! Our oil industries only have so much material/resources as we speak. We need motivators as u mentioned to help eliminate the amount of gas used overall in our world and society.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

This amount does surprise me because you'd think more people were more responsible than you, but in all reality, we are equally irresponsible with food purchasing and using. I'd rather see this money going towards programs for people to ensure food safety.

Hi Rose! It's honestly insane that, that is how much food the average American throws away. It does not surprise me though, considering the amount of wasted food within our landfills. We need preserve as much food as we can! I would rather use this money to contribute to other bills, it is honestly such a disappointment that Americans waste this much as year!

Hi Rose, I was also pretty surprised by the amount of money that is wasted on food. This at first seems to be almost unreal but when I reflected on my own habits I realized it could be true. I also liked that you wished for this wasted money to go to programs that would help ensure food safety for people. Are there any such programs that you know of?
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Name some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?

For the most part, extreme water usage is impacting these systems. If individuals were taught exactly how we gain access to water sources and the use of measurement, we could have a better idea of our daily impact.
