REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Connect with a NonprofitWhat inspires you to act toward a more sustainable community?
Christine Rado 10/14/2019 12:21 PMMostly my son. I want him to live in a world that listen, assists, and nurtures each other. I want my son to live in a world that will be sustainable, both environmental and in our humanity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Christine Rado 10/01/2019 2:22 PMWe always turn off lights when we're not in the room. We use energy-saving bulbs and nightlights as well.Try to unplug as much as possible. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint? What changes did you make or will you make?
Christine Rado 10/01/2019 2:21 PMActually, my footprint was better than I thought it would be. We are certainly very conscientious about how much power we're using/ wasting. I'm instilling this value in my son, as well. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Christine Rado 10/01/2019 2:20 PMProbably a power plant. I currently use the renewable energy program (through ComEd).

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for programmable ones will positively impact your life?
Christine Rado 10/01/2019 2:19 PMHonestly, I am not sure but I am going to educate myself on it! I have some electrician friends that could probably help me with this. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Eco-friendly GardeningWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Christine Rado 9/30/2019 1:58 PMI would say right now it is flooding. I haven't seen too many issues with drought and access as of yet. We have an quickly replenished aquifer.
That being said, if it is easily replenished then it is easier to pollute. I would say we need MORE plants- many of the homes in the area were built on wetlands, which is why there are no basements. Some rain gardens, and additional native plants to soak up and clean the water would be beneficial to our area. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Low-Flow ShowerheadHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Christine Rado 9/30/2019 1:53 PMUsing less water, educating residents and businesses about utilizing less water, installing dual flush toilets, slow flow showerheads and faucets, as a start!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Tour A Waste Management FacilityField trip! What a fun way to learn about our impact and consumption! What facility did you tour? What did you learn?
Christine Rado 9/26/2019 9:22 AMI have been working a lot with SCARCE, who participates in community recycling and education events. Through that, I have learned the impacts of how much one individual can have in their garage that used to go into a dumpster. I did not take anyone with me.
