  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

This does not surprise me because just yesterday I was watching a documentary on food waste where food that was not being used anymore was being thrown away. Like in one part of the documentary it showed a restaurant throwing away food items like bread and vegetables at the end of the day when it was not being used at the end of each "shift". From this, I feel like if we do not use all the food we have why not donate it or set up a charity event where all the food can be donated to families. In regards to what I would use the money for I would use it to support other charities that donate food because, in my opinion, we should not throw away food just because we are not using it because others will use it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "... our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." What is your response to Berry's assertion?

My response to Berry's assertion is we should enjoy all the beautiful things in life and should not take things for granted. We should admire the things that nature has given us.

Hi Laicha, I completely agree. We often take nature for granted. It is very sad to see everyone consumed by technology nowadays. Admiring nature gives us a sense of peace and we are able to bond with earth.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Simplicity Limit Social Media
Social media can keep us connected with loved ones, make us laugh, and help us to learn new things. It can also create echo chambers and take more time than we realize or intend to give. After completing this action for a few days, how do you feel? What do you notice?

When I limited my time on social media it actually felt good because I did not have to worry so much about the drama that was being on social media. From this, I will be implementing this strategy into my daily schedule because after I limited myself from being on social media for around 30 -45 mins I actually got to focus on other things such as spending time with my sister and finish my goal of reading 4 chapters of my favorite book series.

Hi Laicha, social media can distract us from the things right in front of us. I often get consumed by social media by spending several house scrolling. I have also limited by time on social for an hour a day and it truly has helped me become more aware of my surroundings. I am able to spend more time with my loved ones and do my hobbies. Highly recommend limiting social media!
