Ashley's actions
Waste
Carry my Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
If at all possible, I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 3 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 3 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to (___) lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service or organize car sharing with my neighbors or classmates to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Transportation
Conduct Virtual Meetings
I will not travel for meetings and will instead conduct them virtually.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Ashley Bracamontes 4/19/2021 9:25 AMI think this had become a pretty good habit. I love getting cute reuseable cups and mugs! The fun/cute ones are the best to use. I feel like they even encourage me to drink more liquids - especially water! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Ashley Bracamontes 4/19/2021 9:23 AMI love this activity, lately, I have been spending a lot of time dwelling on the bad - it's been nice to keep a little section in my planner where I write things that I am grateful for/make me happy. I am so thankful for my amazing friends and the incredible support they provide. Sometimes things really suck, but going through it with them makes it so much better <3-
Anupama Pasricha 4/20/2021 7:35 AMI hope you share it on St. Kate's social media as it is also our Gratitude week.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you or aren't allowed to use the one you brought? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Ashley Bracamontes 4/19/2021 7:56 AMI use to always get disposable bags when I went grocery shopping or just went to the store in general -- now I am getting better about taking a reusable bag with me. I try to keep a reusable bag in my backpack. Even when I do forget my roommates and I tend to reuse plastic bags.
