Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by planning a weekly menu, only buying the ingredients I need.
Waste
Prevent Recycling Contamination
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will spend 15 minutes researching which materials are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community and recycle only those items.
Simplicity
Work-Life Balance
I will not work more than 8 hour days each day to practice work-life balance.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Energy
Adjust the Thermostat
I will adjust my thermostat down 2 degrees from usual when I use the heat, and up 2 degrees when I use air conditioning.
Transportation
Advocate for Greener Vehicles
I will spend at least 15 minutes assessing the vehicles used by my company or college and advocate for a purchasing policy focused on fuel-efficient vehicles.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 15 minutes researching environmental justice and environmental racism concerns in my region, who is affected by them, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Community
LEARN ABOUT TRANS, FEMME, AND NONBINARY EXPERIENCES
I will spend 15 minutes learning about the experiences of trans, femme, and/or nonbinary people.
Nature
Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
I will enjoy the sunrise and/or sunset each day.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 15 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Simplicity
De-Clutter My Home or Dorm Room
I will de-clutter, clean, and donate or recycle unneeded items in my home or dorm room.

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Advocate for Greener VehiclesReducing (or eliminating) exhaust emissions and improving public health are two benefits of green vehicles. What other motivators inspire you to consider switching to a more fuel-efficient vehicle?
rose guadian 7/25/2021 12:18 PMAnother motivator for more fuel-efficient vehicles is spending far less on gas and not having to fill up as often. The oil industry alone controls so much of our society and not having to participate in it as much is another goal.-
Alissa Thomley 7/25/2021 6:06 PMI completely agree with you Rose! Our oil industries only have so much material/resources as we speak. We need motivators as u mentioned to help eliminate the amount of gas used overall in our world and society.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
rose guadian 7/18/2021 1:37 PMThis amount does surprise me because you'd think more people were more responsible than you, but in all reality, we are equally irresponsible with food purchasing and using. I'd rather see this money going towards programs for people to ensure food safety.-
Alissa Thomley 7/18/2021 3:04 PMHi Rose! It's honestly insane that, that is how much food the average American throws away. It does not surprise me though, considering the amount of wasted food within our landfills. We need preserve as much food as we can! I would rather use this money to contribute to other bills, it is honestly such a disappointment that Americans waste this much as year! -
Moreak Gomez-Diaz 7/18/2021 2:38 PMHi Rose, I was also pretty surprised by the amount of money that is wasted on food. This at first seems to be almost unreal but when I reflected on my own habits I realized it could be true. I also liked that you wished for this wasted money to go to programs that would help ensure food safety for people. Are there any such programs that you know of?

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
rose guadian 7/11/2021 11:36 AMFor the most part, extreme water usage is impacting these systems. If individuals were taught exactly how we gain access to water sources and the use of measurement, we could have a better idea of our daily impact.
