REFLECTION QUESTIONAction Track: Building Resilience Tend a GardenHave you ever had a significant experience in nature that altered your perspective or focus? If so, please describe it.
Dante Cesarman 4/26/2022 11:46 PMWhile growing up I saw a park located near my house slowly decayed and was filled with the trash left by people. I also saw as many efforts were made to clean but ended up being futile as people kept littering every time the trash was picked up.-
Briana Lay 5/01/2022 3:33 PMHi Dante, Very unfortunate that your efforts got disregarded from other people's actions. Regardless you did a great thing for our environment and I hope you continue to do so because your actions will get appreciated more. -
Ariana Ariana 4/27/2022 7:05 PMHi Dante,
How did you feel after seeing that? Personally, I would have felt bad and also frustrated by noticing the intention of "I want to change this situation" but in the end, just one and then many other people doing the same action of not picking up their trash brings back that old habit and not the progress of keeping the area clean.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Dante Cesarman 4/26/2022 11:45 PMConventional Hydroelectric. It does not pollute or air but it changes the environment and affects land use which can disturb habitats.-
Eva Santoyo 5/06/2022 3:58 PMIt is unfortunate that we have no sustainable energy sources that don't affect our environment.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four in the US spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Dante Cesarman 4/15/2022 1:44 AMThe monetary amount does surprise me but the fact that a lot of food is wasted doesn't. I believe this money could be better spent investing in local projects or saving up to have a better economical safety net. I've saved some money by meal prepping and buying in bulk which at first made me think that it would be more expensive as I had to buy big amounts of food at once but considering how much time I save on trips to the store and how much food I've stopped from being thrown away it's been cheaper on the long run.-
Ariana Ariana 4/15/2022 6:31 PMHi Dante!
It does surprise me as well the amount of money that an average family of four in the US spends on food that in the end they throw out. Weekly meal planning is definitely something that I'm willing to start doing to save money, stop throwing big amounts of food and also save trips to the market store. Sometimes we are not conscious of the daily habits we do that can accumulate and end up with more than $100 wasted!

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Does this statistic describe your own transportation habits? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
Dante Cesarman 4/15/2022 1:41 AMThis statistic is used to reflect my own transportation habits as I have implemented walking into my everyday schedule. Whenever I need to go somewhere I take into account the amount of time that it would take me to get to that place and prepare ahead of time so I can walk instead of drive or uber to the location. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater 5-Minute ShowersName some of the human activities impacting the health of water systems, both locally (your watershed) and globally (freshwater and oceans). What can you do to improve the health of water systems?
Dante Cesarman 4/08/2022 3:55 PMThe overuse of water in homes as well as the pollution done to public water sites. Raising consciousness could improve the health of water systems as well as improve the sanitation of both public and private water systems.-
Yvette Renteria-Arreola 4/09/2022 10:34 PMHello Dante, I also agree with you that water sometimes is indeed overused and not really taken care of. I also believe if more information is given and educating ourselves more in how to protect this super important resource which is water.
-Yvette.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Dante Cesarman 4/08/2022 3:52 PMThe location of where I can refill my water and the quality of the water is what had kept me from it the most but I've been using 2 reusable water bottles for the last week and just filling them both before I leave my house has sufficed for my everyday activities. I can see this becoming a permanent habit as long as a keep up the discipline to use the reusable water bottles and fill them before I leave home.-
Christian Perez 4/10/2022 4:51 PMHey Dante i have also bought reusable water bottles and taken those to work because before i would get thirsty at work and just buy water bottles from the vending machine but now i just take a reusable bottle to work instead. -
Nordia Rendon 4/09/2022 6:59 PMHi Dante, definitely the availability of where we can refill our reusable bottle and the quality of tap water either in college or at work is what occasionally leads me to buy bottled water. Instead of using two reusable bottles I carry a large bottle that normally last me until I find the next water station or get home. Since, summer is coming along I might have to carry two bottles, a large one and a small one, so I don't have to buy one. Thanks for the idea.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste RESEARCH LOCAL WASTE SITESIn what neighborhoods or areas of your region are landfills or other waste sites located? Which communities are most affected by these locations?
Dante Cesarman 4/08/2022 3:49 PM850 Tropica Rancho Rd, 1/2 Mi W of La Cadena, Colton, CA 92324. Communities near the waste site suffer due to sanitation.
